The most common asked question when asked to assess is a garage area (on room in the house suitable) is “What size does the room need to be?”. The bottom line is there is no one answer. The height of the room needs to be high enough for the person using it to swing a driver (generally minimum is 2.7m – 3m optimum), the width of the room needs to be minimum 3.8m (4.75m -5m optimum), and the length depends on how many people will regularly use it. For instance, if its 4 people, 4 sets of golf clubs, you would need 7m+, if its only 2 persons anything over 5.5m is fine. The pictures attached in this section show us using leather pads, curtains, and underlay in the projects. Curtains are mainly used if the space is a double garage so, you can push the curtain back to retain a large area of the room when the simulator not being used. Curtains also good to use if windows on one side of the room or to hide major discrepancy's if the walls are very uneven. These combined with the use of 25mm dense underlay we use (beneath the putting grass) helps with insulation, and most importantly noise reduction. Nothing worse than being in the other end of the house and hearing what sounds likegun shotevery 10 seconds. Underlay also helps take any imperfections out of the floor (garage floors tend not to be as smooth as the floors through your home). Other huge benefit with underlay is we can cut out an area the size of the hitting mat and sink it into the floor to have putting grass and hitting mat at the same level (putting grass 14mm thick, driving mat 30mm thick so the 16mm underlay works perfectly.
